During extensive updating of our home in Petone, it finally came around to “Kitchen Time.” We both had a definite look and overall finish in mind and did the usual round of cookers, sink and taps, etc. We then began the search for a builder. We looked at the usual so-called Kitchen shops but it became very apparent that they were only prepared to do what they wanted to do: laminated MDF flat surfaces with minimal plastic finish.
I remembered the joiner who used to be on Jackson Street used real timber and fortunately they still existed on Udy Street in a barn-like building. That reassured us that Lummis Joinery was in the business with the same family dedication and values.
We met with Kevin Lummis to peruse our plans, dreams and wants. Tongue and groove doors, wood panels, paint finish, beaded glass cupboard doors, etc. Without a hint of negativity, he embraced the project enthusiastically, inspected the empty room, checked the measurements, and with no drama, mistakes or concerns that we know of, produced our dream kitchen on schedule and within budget – topped off with a granite-top island that is superb. I know we all ended up very happy. Thank you Kevin and crew!
